After a week of wild speculation, Microsoft laid out plans for the future of Xbox’s business strategy. The company confirmed four first-party games are heading to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, for instance, though kept mum on naming the specific titles. However, two other games are reportedly under consideration after these: Microsoft Flight Simulator and the next Doom.
According to The Verge, the Xbox team is evaluating whether these two titles should go multiplatform. Microsoft Flight Simulator originally launched in 2020 on PC before arriving on Xbox Series X|S in 2021. Meanwhile, a new Doom hasn’t been officially unveiled by Bethesda yet. Reportedly, the initial four Xbox first-party games going multiplatform are Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded. Before this, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle was rumored to be heading to PlayStation, as well as Starfield, but Xbox head Phil Spencer said neither of these games were among the four. In addition, there were talks about Gears of War coming to PS5.
The newish multiplatform approach from Microsoft wasn’t the only topic addressed by the company. Xbox leadership also talked next-generation hardware and teased new options for Xbox Series X|S this holiday season, too.
Spencer also left open the possibility of any first-party game launching on PS5. “I don’t think we should as an industry ever rule out a game going to any other platform,” he said.
